CANSO WORK PROGRAMME
OPERATIONS

Restructuring for long-term impact

The Operations programme launched the CANSO GreenATM Environmental Accreditation Programme this year. This initiative, supported by CANSO Members at the 26th AGM, will provide ANSPs with an independent, industry-endorsed, accreditation of their environmental efforts.

The Operations programme also undertook a restructuring effort to ensure its long-term relevancy and better align its structure with the goals of the Global Council’s Complete Air Traffic System (CATS) and its 2045 Vision. The new structure became effective in February 2023.

Amid the restructuring effort, the Operations programme continued delivering regionally specific and globally relevant content through publications, webinars and workshops. We published the Long-Range Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM)  Concept White Paper, hosted a global webinar to increase the understanding of space launch and re-entry operations, international coordination needs and processes, and hosted a regional workshop on terminal airspace redesign in the Latin American region.

The Operations programme will lead and contribute to elements of the work plan for the Complete Air Traffic System’s (CATS) future sky vision, with work on airspace concepts, the integration of operational systems and the identification of important environmental key performance indicators by its workgroups.

Programme Highlights

The Data Link Implementation Task Force delivered a two-part webinar - An Introduction to Datalink Operations. Part 1 gave an introduction and overview of Datalink Operations, while part 2 looked at planning and implementation.

The Operations Steering Group (OSC SG) restructured the CANSO Operations workgroups and task forces to better align them with the objectives of the CATS Global Council’s 2045 vision and roadmap. The new structure was formally launched at the Safety and Operations workgroups and task forces meeting in Langen, Germany. The restructuring effort also simplified the old structure by reducing the number of Ops groups from eleven to seven.

The Performance Based Navigation (PBN) Workgroup hosted a one-day workshop targeting upper management to deliver information on the benefits and considerations relating to terminal airspace redesign projects in the Latin American region.

The UAS and Emerging Technologies Workgroup hosted a very successful webinar – Understanding Space Launch and Re-Entry Operations, International Coordination Needs and Processes

The Operations Programme Manager presented a summary of the work being done by CANSO to support the CATS 2045 vision and a separate overview of the global Work Group/Task Force programmes during the joint Africa Region Operations and Safety Workshop in Lusaka, Zambia.

The Data Link Implementation (DLI) Task Force developed a quick reference guide to accompany the DLI webinar series which was launched in advance of the ICAO Global Operational Data-Link publication.

The CADENCE Task Force conducted multiple separate outreach sessions by presenting CADENCE Operational Information System (OIS) demonstrations to the Asia-Pacific, Middle-East and Africa regions.
